Pharmacy Reviews

What is included in a Pharmacy Review?

A Pharmacy Review provides a structured written report addressing:

  • Medication appropriateness and clinical rationale
  • Identification of medication-related risk
  • Relevance to the accepted injury or condition
  • Consideration of reasonable and necessary criteria
  • Alternatives where clinically relevant
  • Clear, insurer-focused recommendations to support next steps

Reports are tailored to the questions raised in the referral.

When should I refer for a Pharmacy Review?

Pharmacy Reviews are appropriate when:

  • There is uncertainty about whether medications are reasonable and necessary
  • An independent opinion is required to support funding or decline decisions
  • Clarification is needed on whether medications relate to the accepted injury
  • Medicinal cannabis has been requested or approved without clear treatment goals
  • Polypharmacy or multiple prescribers create complexity or risk

How long does a Pharmacy Review take?

Timeframes vary depending on case complexity, information availability, and the need for treating provider engagement. Referrals are triaged promptly, and expected timeframes are confirmed once the referral is reviewed. Typical turnarounds are 5 business days, or 3 days post successful doctor discussion.

What information do you need to conduct a Pharmacy Review?

The referral form guides you through what is required. Typically, this includes:

  • Claim and claimant details
  • Certificate of Capacity / Fitness
  • Current medication list and prescribers if available
  • Relevant medical information
  • Any specific questions you would like addressed

Can you review multiple medications in one review?

Yes. We can assess an entire medication regimen or focus on specific medications, depending on the needs of the claim.

Medication Management

What is Medication Management?

Medication Management involves structured pharmacist oversight where medication-related risk has already been identified or suspected and requires active management, coordination, and follow-through.

It focuses on ensuring medication strategies are implemented appropriately and reviewed over time to maintain safety and minimise risks.

When should I refer for Medication Management?

Medication Management is appropriate when:

  • Medication use appears to be contributing to delayed recovery or incapacity
  • High-risk medications or combinations have been identified
  • Polypharmacy is causing sedation, cognitive impairment, or functional limitation
  • Previous medication recommendations have not been implemented
  • Medication Risk Assessments highlight high or critical risk classification
  • Treating doctors acknowledge risk but lack time or structure to manage it

Do you communicate with treating doctors?

Yes, where appropriate and with consent. We engage with treating providers to support medication optimisation and ensure recommendations align with overall treatment planning.

Does IMM prescribe or change medications directly?

No. IMM or our pharmacists do not prescribe medications or make changes. We provide independent opinions and structured engagement with treating providers, who remain responsible for prescribing decisions and medication change implementation.

Are your services suitable for complex or long-running claims?

Are AllMeds and Independent Med Management (IMM) associated companies?

No. AllMeds and Independent Med Management (IMM) operate as separate and independent entities with distinct functions and governance.

While a director of IMM is also the CEO of AllMeds, the two organisations are run independently. IMM's services, opinions, and recommendations are provided autonomously and are not influenced by AllMeds' platform activities or commercial interests.

This separation ensures that IMM's pharmacist-led opinions remain independent, evidence-based, and appropriate for insurer and claims decision-making.

How much does a Pharmacy Review or Medication Management service cost?

Pricing and inclusions vary depending on the complexity of the claim and the scope of work required. Services typically start from $500, with final pricing confirmed once the referral and inclusions have been confirmed. Full pricing and inclusions are available on request.
